From sweeping views overlooking Horseshoe Bay to a back nine leading golfers along the gentle shores of Lake LBJ, Apple Rock has a well-deserved reputation as one of the most scenic courses in Texas. Designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones, Sr., this course offers a welcome challenge with dramatic elevation changes and water coming into play on seven holes.

  • Hole 1

    Par 4

    The first fairway slopes hard left to right. Favor the left side on your tee shot for a clear second shot to the green guarded by water short and left.

  • Hole 2

    Par 4

    Be aware of the lateral penalty area down the right side. Risking an aggressive line over the right corner can lead to an easy second shot into the green. Staying to the left of the fairway bunker may require a shorter club off the tee to prevent going through the fairway.

  • Hole 3

    Par 3

    Choose the right club on this Par 3. Bunkers on the left and water on the right demand precision. The hole plays a little downhill and the green slopes left to right.

  • Hole 4

    Par 5

    A good tee shot could lead to the option of going for this Par 5 in two. Favor the right side of the fairway as it slopes right to left. The back to front sloped green is elevated with a bunker guarding the front.

  • Hole 5

    Par 4

    A shorter Par 4. Out of Bounds left and a lateral penalty area to the right. Favor the left side of the fairway as it slopes left to right. A precise second shot will be required to get it close on this deep green.

  • Hole 6

    Par 4

    This difficult dog leg left par 4 requires a long and straight drive up the left center of the fairway to reach the plateau. A steeply undulated green awaits the second shot. Landing the ball on the correct level is the key to success.

  • Hole 7

    Par 5

    Tee it high and let it fly on this reachable Par 5. Good tee shots down the left center will give the player a chance to hit for the green in two. Lay ups will require planning to avoid a steep uphill incline into a multiple tear green.

  • Hole 8

    Par 3

    Carrying the water is of upmost importance on the Par 3 eighth hole. The green is divided by steep slopes into 3 sections. Playing past the hole is the best option to getting it close.

  • Hole 9

    Par 4

    Hit your tee shot to the plateau for a level second shot into the green. Hit an extra club or two to avoid leaving the second shot short. The slopes will bring the ball back on down short of the green leaving a difficult lob shot for up and down.

  • Hole 10

    Par 5

    Soak in the view of Lake LBJ as you stand on the elevated tee box. A good tee shot will get you to the plateaued fairway. Favor the left side on the second shot to give the best angle into the green for the third shot.

  • Hole 11

    Par 5

    The longer hitter can take an aggressive line over the fairway bunker on the right leaving another opportunity to reach a par 5 in two. Out of bounds lingers on the right side and a lateral penalty area stretches along the left side of the hole. Be aware of the water short and left of the green. It comes into play more than it appears.

  • Hole 12

    Par 3

    The green slopes back to front. Four different levels make it a challenge to get the ball close. Clearing the water and the bunker guarding the green are the highest priority.

  • Hole 13

    Par 4

    The green is more elevated than it appears. Taking one or two extra clubs on our second shot will help you get it close. This green has multiple levels. Chose our club wisely.

  • Hole 14

    Par 4

    Short dog leg right Par 4. Aggressive lines down the right can lead to an easy up and in for birdie. Out of bounds and a deep fairway bunker on the right await those trying for glory.

  • Hole 15

    Par 4

    Not much trouble on this hole. Straight away and down the middle is the best option. Bunkers guard the green. A high soft shot will get you close.

  • Hole 16

    Par 4

    Pecan Creek winds through hole 16 short of the green, right of the fairway, and below the tee box. Layup off the tee to avoid going in the creek. Favor the right center of the fairway to provide a level lie and the best angle into the green. The green is elevated, requiring adding at least an extra club to avoid the bunker on the right.

  • Hole 17

    Par 3

    A steep downhill slope guards the front of this Par 3. Bunkers guard the right and left sides. The green is slighted elevated requiring more club off the tee to avoid these obstacles.

  • Hole 18

    Par 4

    Dog leg left Par 4. Longer and errant shots to the right will find the fairway bunkers. Trees guard the left side of the fairway. Choosing the correct club to avoid the bunkers will set up the second shot to a sharply elevated, bunker guarded green.
